What is a Registered Dietitian

Nutritionist? (RDN)

An RDN is a food and nutrition expert, earning both academic and professional requirements. This includes earning a Bachelors degree that has been approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics.  Coursework includes food and nutrition science, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, and foodservice systems management.

RDN's must complete an accredited, supervised practice of at least 1200 hours in health care, community, and food service settings.

RDN's are required to pass a national examination administered by the

Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Continuing professional education is also required to maintain registration.
